Finding the right size among all the options

Sizes can vary from one manufacturer to another, and they are listed in different ways, which can make things confusing.

That’s why you should use the measurements you’ve taken to determine which size you should select.

REMEMBER – you should always round DOWN rather than up when comparing your measurements to the size chart. For example, if your waist measures 94 cm and the options are 92 cm or 96 cm, you should round down and choose the size corresponding to 92 cm.

Size chart

Leg length is also given – you can find the best match for your measurement here. Read further down to see why this is important.

The measurements to go by differ for women and men – so we’ve divided the information below to show which measurements you should follow.

Some products or brands may be adjusted, meaning you might need to choose a different size than you normally do. This will be indicated in the size selector, so pay attention to any relevant information there.

Find your correct size – women’s clothing

To find the most accurate trouser size for a woman, measure the hip circumference – at the widest point around your seat. The tape measure should be snug against your body, and you should stand with your legs together.

If a waist measurement is needed to find the right model to compare with, measure around your waist at the navel, where you are the narrowest. However, the hip measurement is the best single measurement to use when finding the most accurate size.

For tops, measure the bust circumference. Do this around the fullest part of your bust – it’s best if someone else measures you so your arms can hang naturally at your sides, but you can also do it yourself.

If you’re choosing only a top, and it’s a unisex or men’s model, you usually go one size down. For example, if you normally wear a women’s size L, you should choose a men’s/unisex size M.

Find your correct size – men’s clothing

To find the most accurate trouser size for a man, measure the waist circumference – at the point where your trouser waistband sits. This is essentially the same as if you were wearing a belt. The tape measure should be snug against your body, and you should stand with your legs together.

For tops, measure the chest circumference. This is done around the fullest part of your chest – again, a snug measurement taken directly on the body with only a t-shirt or similar underneath.

Jeans sizes converted to cm – men’s trousers only

You can’t simply convert your jeans size to cm, as this can give a misleading idea of the actual size. We’ve created a converter to give you an approximate size if you’re starting from your jeans size. But we always recommend measuring your waist directly on your body and using that to determine your correct size.

For most trousers, the size will be shown as the jeans size(s) it corresponds to – this will be displayed in the size selector under “corresponds to jeans size.”

Converted leg lengths for jeans

28” – extra short leg length, approx. 70 cm

30” – short leg length, approx. 76 cm

32” – standard leg length, approx. 82 cm

34” – long leg length, approx. 88–92 cm

36” – extra long leg length, approx. 92–96 cm

Leg length – why it’s so important

If you’re buying work trousers and need to use knee pads in the knee pad pockets, it’s important that the trousers are the right length. You can’t just shorten them if they are much too long, as the knee pads won’t cover your knees properly.

There is a short-leg size category called D-sizes, which, in addition to having shorter legs, also have a different cut in the waist for a slightly different fit around the hips. Here, it’s especially important to check your waist measurement in cm to get the right size.

The same applies if you have long legs – if the trousers are too short, the knee pads won’t cover your knees properly. So, choose an extra leg length if needed.

Therefore, it’s important to measure your inside leg length so you can compare it when choosing new trousers.

If the knee pad pocket sits correctly over the knee but you’re just missing a little length, some models allow you to unpick a seam to extend the leg length by about 5 cm.

Similarly, you can shorten trousers by about 5 cm without affecting the rest of the garment.

Knee placement

Coveralls – a category of their own

Finding the correct size for a coverall is one of the hardest. Many factors affect which size you should choose: your height, the size you usually wear, what it will be used for, and which model you select.

So, check if there’s any special information on the product itself, either about sizing or the fit of that particular model.

The most important measurement here is chest size – if you base it on that and compare it to the size you normally wear in, say, a winter jacket, you’ll have a good indication of which size to choose.

Women should generally choose one size smaller in a unisex or men’s model compared to their usual size. For example, if you’re a women’s size Medium, you should choose a unisex/men’s size Small.

If you’re not very tall, avoid models that are too long in the torso. This can be hard to tell, but you can always contact our customer service, who are ready to help.

The selection of thermal coveralls with short and long leg lengths isn’t very large, but for example, the Westborn Performance thermal coverall is a good option with a wide range of sizes and is available in regular, short, and long leg lengths in selected sizes.

Tips for measuring yourself

  • Measure close to your body
  • Have someone else measure you – this gives you the best starting point for choosing the right workwear size
  • Pull the tape measure snug when taking measurements
  • Leg length is important – especially if your workwear has knee pockets or functions/pockets on the legs
  • Decide what fit you want – loose, fitted, stretch
  • Check which sizes you wear in other clothing so you can compare if in doubt
  • Contact customer service at Billig-arbejdstøj.dk if you need help
